Deauville II
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
Continuing her 1993 exploration of the Normandy coast, this variation zooms out to capture the collective geometry of the beach. Unlike the solitary focus of Deauville I, here the parasols and rounded cabanas stand like a colorful regiment against the deep azure sky. Ilana utilizes a rich palette of saturated primaries which pop vividly against the golden sand, giving structural weight to the knotted fabric folds. The sea rolls in with gentle whitecaps, suggesting a breezy afternoon where the wind is the only active participant. By removing the crowds usually associated with this bustling resort, Baumgarten-Wajsblat invites us to appreciate the structural beauty of the seaside environment itself—a nostalgic pause that freezes the timeless allure of summer in permanent, joyful color.
