Ranelagh bleu
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
Revisiting the Jardin du Ranelagh in the same year as its 'white' counterpart, this work transforms the park into a dynamic stage of electric intensity. The central statue is now rendered in deep indigo, appearing to wrestle or dance atop its pedestal. Ilana employs bold, dark contours to separate the forms, creating a visual rhythm that echoes the luminous quality of stained glass—a callback to her silk painting days. The surrounding trees erupt in a canopy of fiery reds and sunny yellows, making the scene feel less like a static observation and more like a living, breathing moment. Painted in 1994, it reflects the artist's intimate connection to her neighborhood, proving that the same view can yield vastly different emotional landscapes depending on the light and the artist's internal state.
