Nu bleu rouge vert
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
By 1997, Ilana’s approach to the nude had become increasingly abstract and gestural. In this piece, the reclining figure is constructed not with flesh tones but with bold washes of crimson and warm ochre, surrounded by rapid strokes of emerald and deep indigo. The light seems to radiate from the colliding colors themselves rather than a natural source. A fluid dark line traces the curve of the spine, anchoring the form amidst the swirling abstraction. This work shares the kinetic energy of her emerging expressionist style, prioritizing the emotional weight of the moment over literal reality. It invites the viewer to experience a universal sense of vulnerability and repose, finding peace within a storm of color.
