Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
In this 1997 work, the human form emerges as a living pulse of energy rather than a static object. Ilana constructs the standing figure with confident, sweeping black contours that barely contain the riot of violent red, electric blue, and sun-drenched yellow exploding around her. The face is a mask of introspection, painted in fragmented planes of white and green that evoke a split self. This is a raw expression of feeling where the brushstrokes seem to dance with urgency. It connects visually to her later work Passions (1998), sharing the same intensity of line and color. Ilana invites the viewer to witness a moment of vulnerability transformed into a vibrant declaration of existence, reminding us that we are all composed of the chaotic colors of our experiences.
