Jerusalem 3000 ans
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
Painted in 1996 to commemorate the trimillennium of the City of David, this work transforms the ancient architecture of Jerusalem into a luminous celebration of faith. Ilana employs a warm, radiant palette of ochre and gold to render the famous Jerusalem stone, creating a city that glows from within. The composition acts as a spiritual map, condensing the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock into a unified tapestry. Above, the sky is dominated by the rhythmic curves of giant shofars, visually translating the ancient sound of jubilation into sweeping white strokes. This painting is the first in a trilogy dedicated to the anniversary, establishing the spiritual energy that she would expand upon in the subsequent two works from 1997.
