Jerusalem II 3000 ans

Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat

Continuing her tribute to the Holy City's 3000th anniversary, this 1997 work shifts the focus to the nocturnal celebration. A symphony of light explodes over the ancient ramparts, with cascading fountains of white, silver, and cobalt blue mimicking fireworks against a midnight sky. These dynamic bursts contrast with the heavy, textured application of earthy reds and terracottas used for the Old City walls below. The light seems to drip down the frame, uniting the explosive sky with the grounding stone. Compared to the first Jerusalem painting, this piece is more kinetic and atmospheric, capturing the electric excitement of the specific historical moment rather than just the timeless spiritual geography.
