Méditation
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
Challenging the traditional understanding of quiet contemplation, this 1999 work presents meditation through a lens of dynamic color and motion. Ilana employs a fearless palette of Mediterranean blues and searing yellows, applying paint with thick, tactile strokes. The central figure sits cross-legged, her flowing dark hair echoing the organic foliage bursting from the domed architecture behind her. Rather than a static backdrop, the village appears alive, pulsating with the same spiritual rhythm as the meditator. The boundary between the internal self and the external world dissolves into a unified expression of joy, suggesting that serenity is not an absence of movement, but a harmonious union with the vibrant chaos of life.
