Le paradis

Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat

In this 2000 reimagining of Eden, Ilana presents a paradise that is less about tranquility and more about raw, pulsating life. The canvas explodes with saturated color. Three figures are defined by distinct, non-naturalistic hues: a standing male in earth tones clutching a serpent, a female glowing in ethereal pale green, and a solitary blue figure crouching in contemplation. Loose, expressive brushwork merges the bodies with the lush, chaotic foliage, inextricably linking humanity and nature. By distorting color and form, the artist explores the tension between innocence and knowledge, challenging the traditional idyllic view of the Garden with psychological complexity and modern expressionist energy.
