Régate I

Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat

In 2001, Ilana captured the kinetic energy of a race at sea, transforming a fleet of sailboats into a vibrant geometric dance. She constructs the scene using sharp, triangular forms that cut through the composition like prows. Deep cobalt blues and forest greens clash with acid yellows, mimicking the chaotic brilliance of sunlight on choppy water. Thick, textured paint adds a tactile quality, while aggressive horizontal streaks of red suggest the tension and speed of the vessels. By reducing the regatta to its most elemental shapes, the artist invites us to experience the rush of the event, exploring how abstract geometry can convey the raw power of nature and competition.
