Hommage Yves, Afrique II
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
In this second tribute from 2001, the scene shifts from quiet contemplation to a vibrant, spiritual gathering. Ilana employs saturated primary colors to render figures with dual-toned faces and emerald skin emerging from a lush background. Anchoring the composition on the right is a prominent blue figure—a spectral representation of her late son, Yves. He appears not in mourning, but as a vibrant participant in this celestial dialogue, reaching out amidst the swirling energy. This work serves as a powerful act of remembrance. Rather than succumbing to the darkness of loss, the artist uses painting to keep the spirit of her son alive within a world of eternal color.
