Nu tricolore

Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat

In a riot of unbridled color, a solitary figure emerges to invite us into a moment of intimate introspection. Painted in 2002, this work balances quietude with explosive visual energy. Ilana constructs the subject using an electric palette of acidic greens and burning oranges clashing against deep violets. These intense hues create an internal heat radiating from the skin, while fluid black outlines define the body. Thick, expressive brushwork dissolves the boundaries between the figure and her surroundings. Nodding to the Fauvist tradition, it challenges the viewer to find beauty in the energy of the stroke, turning a simple seated pose into a complex landscape of human feeling.
