La sortie d'Egypte
Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat
A kaleidoscope of vibrant color reimagines the Exodus in this striking 2002 composition. Ilana masterfully fragments the narrative within the structural embrace of a large Star of David. The timeline unfolds simultaneously: from the brutality of slavery on the right to the miraculous parting of the Red Sea on the left. At the bottom, Moses and Aaron confront Pharaoh, while the composition culminates at the peak with the reception of the Ten Commandments. Saturated primaries—deep blues and burning reds—create a sense of urgency. More than a religious illustration, it is a visual assertion of cultural identity, inviting the viewer to see the journey from oppression to spiritual law as a continuous, unified experience.
