Ilana Baumgarten-Wajsblat

Likely created in the late 90s alongside her other collage works, this piece confronts the viewer with a riot of textures and fragmented icons. Ilana constructs a tactile landscape using crumpled yellow backgrounds as a foundation for cultural debris. Disjointed magazine cutouts, including a stoic Prince Charles and French typography, jostle for space with 3D objects like a stray shoelace and bottle caps. The eye darts frantically across the surface, mirroring the consumption of information in a media-saturated world. It serves as a time capsule preserving the ephemera of daily life, challenging us to find narrative beauty in the chaotic remnants of our collective history.
